Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15- to 20-year-olds in the United States, and 4,283 teen drivers were involved in fatal crashes in 2012. More than 40 percent (1,875) of those young drivers died in the crash. Talk to your kids about traffic safety early and often, before they reach driving age. But don’t stop there: Have conversations with the parents of your kids’ peer groups and compare notes—both are key to your teens’ safety.
